“Where Moms Know Breast”

The Boob Group is an audio podcast supporting parents who are passionate about providing breast milk to their babies. Each week, a group of experienced moms openly discuss their success, their struggles, and society’s impact on how they feed their babies. The show helps guide listeners by providing an honest, natural, and judgment-free approach to breastfeeding, pumping, milk sharing, and more.

The Hosts

Robin Kaplan, The Boob Group Host

Robin Kaplan

Since starting her private practice lactation consultation business, the San Diego Breastfeeding Center, in 2009, Robin has made it her goal to provide judgment-free breastfeeding and parenting support for all moms and babies. Breastfeeding newborns and babies and parenting are not one-size-fits-all experiences and she wants all of her clients, readers, and listeners to know that our mission is to help each of you reach and possibly surpass your own personal breastfeeding goals.

In 2005, Robin entered the full-time “profession” of motherhood. Her son, Benjamin, was born in July 2005 and she knew she wanted to breastfeed him. After 19 hours of labor, 2 ½ hours of pushing, and multiple bags of fluids, she and Benjamin did not get off to a great start with breastfeeding. After 4 days of frustration, she called a lactation consultant (LC) and had her come to her home to assess what she was and was not doing. After 90 minutes of supportive advice and guidance, Benjamin was latching and eating and Robin felt relieved and empowered. Fifteen months later, her LC returned to her home to assist her with breastfeeding Ryan, her new baby boy. Again, after the consultation, Robin felt like a new woman…confident, relaxed, and empowered. This confidence continued even through infant reflux, an over-active letdown, persistent crying, and returning to work full time.

In 2008, Robin decided to change her career from museum educator to lactation consultant. She wanted to help new moms feel confident and empowered, just as she had felt after her LC visited her home. As new moms, we are fragile, overwhelmed, and hormonal. Any difficulty can seem like an insurmountable task. This is why we all need support…to help us feel empowered again!

Robin received training to be a Certified Lactation Educator and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant from UCSD. She holds a Master's in Education from UCLA, a multiple-subjects teacher credential from UCLA, and a BA in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. In addition to being the owner of the San Diego Breastfeeding Center, Robin was the founding co-editor of the International Lactation Consultant Association's (ILCA) blog, Lactation Matters, and a regular contributor to ILCA's E-Globe newsletter and the Natural Kidz blog.

Robin lives in San Diego, CA with her husband, Jason, their two sons, Benjamin and Ryan, and their dog, Tilly. She has a love of cooking, traveling, hiking, going to the beach, social media, and teaching.

Sunny Gault, New Mommy Media

Sunny Gault

Sunny had never even changed a diaper before having her first child. Her friends and family would joke about her inexperience with children, and wondered how well she could transition from having a successful career in television news to being a full-time mom.

Sunny met the challenge head-on by combining her talents in media with her passion for motherhood. She helped launch the web television series, Momversation, featuring video conversations among the web’s top mommy bloggers. This provided great on-the-job training, teaching Sunny some important parenting and online programming skills. When she was pregnant with her first child, Sunny joined the weekly podcast PregTASTIC, as host and producer. Once again, Sunny was able to grow and learn from other moms, many of which were located all over the world.

Two months prior to the birth of her second child, Sunny launched her own company, New Mommy Media. The company produces several audio podcasts focused on easing the transition to parenthood. Her goal is to provide resources where new and expecting parents can embrace their new roles in life, without feeling like they have all the answers. It’s for people, like Sunny, who had little experience, but a whole lot of heart.

Sunny and her husband, Ryan, live in San Diego with their four children: Sayer, Urban, and identical twins Ainsley and Addison. Sunny proudly breastfed and pumped for all four of her children, including tandem breastfeeding her twins for almost three years. She has also supplemented with formula, donated and received donated breast milk, and has used nipples shields, pacifiers and other products to help her continue breastfeeding for as long as possible. Sunny is passionate about the benefits of breast milk, but she also hopes to empower mothers to be confident in their feeding choices and to make decisions that are best for the entire family.
