Marla Hicks
Nurse/ Midwife
Marla began attending homebirths in 1977. She is a licensed midwife, Certified Professional Midwife, and a Registered Nurse holding board certification in Perinatal Nursing, the high-‐risk area of maternal-‐newborn care. Marla has attended over 1,200 homebirths as a senior midwife and has worked in labor and delivery, postpartum, newborn nursery, and community health settings. She is the Executive Director/Chief Academic Officer of Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery, the first state approved, nationally accredited residential midwifery education program in California. She is passionate about growing and preserving the profession of midwifery and feels that the education of mothers and midwives is of worldwide importance.
